So I do not know if you guys have had this same issue but my girlfriend (of 3 years now) has for as long as we have been together laughed to herself every time I go out detecting. Because she isnt a coin collector and truthfully knows not much about coins she doesnt express the same enthusian as i do when I find say a 1866 shield nickel or a 1914-D wheatie. Last weekend this all changed. She and I went out in back of my house to an abaondoned bungalow that I have hunted off and on for about 5 years. Its a guarenteed wheatie or Indian head if I am willing to spend 20-40 minutes hunting, An hour or two usually results in 5 or 6 pennies and maybe a nickel or sometimes a merc or barber dime. My girlfriend lives in Seattle but goes to the same college as me and she has visted me for about two weeks now so I asked her to come out with me to detect. About 5 minutes into detecting I was showing her how to keep the coil parallel to the ground blah blah blah and she got a strong quarter signal. I showed her where to dig and two scoops in 4 inches down up came a 1926 standing liberty Quarter! My first ever (I guess really her first). I ran back to the house to clean the quarter off and she stayed up there. About 20 minutes later she comes walking down absolutly extatic because "these coins have indians on them" shes not dumb just doesnt know coins. To may a long story shorter 25 minutes of her swinging my IDX Pro resulted in 3 indian head pennies (1888, 1898, 1902) two wheaties (1910, 1920) and a 1926 Standing Liberty Quarter VG +.
I can now happily say that when I say Im going out to detect, she responds "can I come too?" Were looking into a nice detector upgrade for myself, so I can give her my Whites IDX Pro. I was thinking of an XLT because I seem to be partial to Whites instruments, but if any of you guys/girls have an idea let me know. Thanks LeoDetecting with the girlfriend Coin
